Well you could go to the official Red Star website, www.fc-redstar.net to find out such information. They don't get many unless they are playing Partizan Belgrade at home, or if it's a European competition!

It's not ONLY the delije that attend, there are a few other fans sat on the side, and a few away fans, but the majority are just the Delije!

Here's a link....

http://www.european-football-statistics.co.uk/attn/current/aveser.htm

The highest attendance all season was 30,000, presumably against Partizan and the average attendance is 9,138. If it wasn't for so many turning up for the derby matches, the average attendance would be much lower of course.

Looking at that, it's amazing to see that Premier League clubs can have an average attendance of under 1,000 (Vozdovac and Zemun) I suppose that Serbian football is not exactly highly appetising to watch, but that's a little bit poor.

I was very much surprised too. Always thought attendances were much higher in Serbia.

The fans play their part at the matches. if you take a look, the top 3 teams in order of average attendance were the top 3 teams (in that exact order) in the final league table last season!

Yes, I noticed that.

I'd close off half of Celtic Park if it meant there would be a more passionate and noisy bunch as there is now. The supporters from places like Serbia and Turkey set a prime example on what is missing from the supporters in the UK.

Teams in Ireland do well with their support though as flares are allowed for example, but there are too many limits in UK grounds to enjoy a matchday to the maximum.

Deportivo have achieved more in domestic success though, mainly the Champions' League and I think this is why they are ranked higher.

Yes, it is. The recent happenings tend to be what teams are known for.

For example, when people mention Celtic, not many people under 50 will instantly think about the 1967 European Cup win when 11 players from within 20 miles of Celtic Park beat a highly successful Inter Milan team, they tend to think of the past five years.

Villarreal are a good example of a team based on recent happenings and success. Up until Celtic played them in 2004, my knowledge on them was very low. They kicked us out of the UEFA Cup Quarter Final and went on to lose the final to Marseille that year and more recently they reached the Champions' League Semi Final in 2006. Yet, only a few seasons before this Villarreal were an average second flight Spanish team. The team is small and the town of Vila-real has a smaller population than Keighley. But my point is, it's all about recent success and five years ago, most people in the UK wouldn't have known a team called Villarreal existed.

Deportivo is a world wide name, they won La Liga, the best league in the world without a doubt in 2000 and they have been a strong force in European competition.
